Created by Tara Stiles, Strala Yoga was drawn from Tara's extensive background in classical ballet and choreography, and long-time practice of yoga. Mike Taylor leads the science and movement of Strala. He studied mind-body medicine at Harvard, complementary medicine at Oxford, and has spent 30 years practicing Eastern movement and healing.
Using calm and connected movement, Strala introduces a flow state of mind-body harmony. Think: super-human state of bodily strength and movability, and calm, focused, awareness in your mind. You move through the familiar and unfamiliar with far less effort, going further without tiring.
Strala is designed to activate your body’s relaxation response – a chemical cascade responsible for overall health, healing, and well-being. This doesn’t happen in common yoga or exercise systems, which stimulate cortisol production. When we use force to reach goals — for example in yoga, jumping and pushing into poses — our bodies are bathed in stress hormones. We become inhibited and chemically less able to see the full range of available options. Often this leads to weight-gain, injury, and stress-related disorders.
By contrast, when we move with ease through all conditions, we trigger the relaxation response. This is where we want to live most of our lives. Strala guides you to activate your own relaxation response by moving gently and exploring where we are, rather than forcing to be elsewhere.
